Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What information have the Conservatives got about the plans for Kingston?
A. Helen Whately and Zac Goldsmith have met the Chief Executive, Chairman and Medical Director of Kingston, who described the 'Save Kingston Hospital' campaign as "irresponsible". Helen and Zac have seen several NHS documents (some published and some leaked) and questioned the ‘Healthcare for SW London’ team.

Q. What do the leaked NHS documents actually say? What else do we know?
A. The documents show that a reduction from 4 to 3 A&Es is being considered for SW London. Eighteen ‘scenarios’ are projected and, in a third of them, Kingston’s A&E and Maternity Services would be downgraded. We have also been told that two of the four hospitals may be ‘protected’, leaving Kingston and one other at risk. Paediatric inpatients and elective surgery are also under review.

Q. The NHS has said ‘no change is not an option’. What solution are the Conservatives proposing?
A. If we win the General Election, the Conservatives will protect the NHS budget. We will not allow any A&E or Maternity unit to close for financial reasons. Our NHS policies will solve the problem.

Q. What solution are the Lib Dems proposing?
A. The Lib Dems don’t have a solution. They have isolated themselves from Labour, their natural allies, and they have attacked the Conservatives. They have no plan for saving the hospital.

Q. What can I do to help Kingston Hospital?
A. Continue supporting the hospital. In May, vote Conservative. A change of government is the best way to secure the future of the hospital.
