I am angry and outraged that many MPs have abused our trust with their expenses claims. We have been badly let down.
I have said time and again since I was selected, I will campaign with integrity and honest or not at all. The expenses scandal, on top of spin and broken promises threaten the whole political system.
Politics should be honourable. It should be about solving the most difficult problems we face as a country. It should be about improving public services and making things better – that’s the sort of politics I believe in. This isn’t something I can bring about alone, nor any single candidate or MP – we need a change of Government.
The next General Election will be about more than electing a local MP – It will be about changing the Government. A conservative vote locally is a vote for changing the Government, for a fresh start and a more positive future.
What I can do is make a clear commitment on how I will behave if I become your MP. As a start, I have set out my commitments on expenses here. I will treat this as a binding contract between us if you elect me.
My agreement with you…
• Only claim expenses absolutely required to do a good job as your MP
• Continue to live in the constituency (not claim for a second home)
• Publish itemised details of all my expense claims on my website
• Publish itemised details of all my expense claims on my website
• Hold an annual public meeting at which you can question me about my expenses, attendance
in Parliament and work in the constituency (as well as regular surgeries).
