Thank you to everyone who supported me on Thursday 6th May, and to the many hundreds of you who have helped over the last three years. Thanks to you, the Conservative vote in Kingston & Surbiton increased by over 4,000.
I am sorry I didn’t succeed in my bid to become your MP and give you the voice I think local people so badly need in a Conservative Government. Congratulations to Edward Davey, who was returned as Liberal Democrat MP for Kingston and Surbiton.
In my time as your Conservative Candidate I have done my best to make a difference for local people. I hope I have succeeded, and I will continue to campaign on our local priorities, like Kingston Hospital and local schools.
Thank you for all your emails and messages of support, and please keep in touch.

Kingston Hospital will be safe with Helen Whately as MP
Helen Whately boosts Conservative vote by over 4,000
David Cameron visited Kingston Hospital on Saturday 10th April to discuss the NHS with Helen Whately and Hospital staff.
“The NHS is our top priority, because it is the top priority for many families in the country including my own. That’s why we made an exception and said that while there have to be difficult decisions about Government spending, the NHS budget should grow every year. We want to end all these top-down reviews and slicing up that has been taking place. So here in Kingston Hospital we can say we are going to get rid of that review and keep investing in this hospital. Let it be the decision of GPs and local people about where they are treated and which hospitals go on and thrive. I am sure that this one will, and I know that Helen Whately has been fighting that campaign extremely hard.”
The Conservative vote in Kingston and Surbiton constituency increased by 4,437 votes in the General Election on 6th May.
Overcoming the Lib Dem majority was always going to be a challenge, particularly after the party's surge in popularity after the televised leader debates. Determined to give the constituency a voice in a Conservative Government, Helen and her team but were out encouraging residents to vote until the polls closed at 10pm. The result was declared at around 6am on 7th May.
With 20,868 Conservative votes against 28,428 for incumbent Edward Davey, Helen reduced the Liberal Democrat majority from 8,966 to 7,560 (a Lib Dem to Conservative swing of 2.4%).
Helen was selected as Parliamentary Candidate for Kingston & Surbiton in 2007 and stated from the outset that she would 'campaign with honesty and integrity or not at all'. Helen has used her position as Parliamentary Candidate to make a difference for local people, campaigning for Kingston Hospital, local schools, improvements to transport and starting forums to help local businesses through these tough economic times.
Commenting on the result Helen said: "It's a respectable result. We fought a positive campaign, have really made a difference locally and built up a much stronger local Conservative organisation. Hundreds of people were involved in the campaign and I've been deluged with supportive emails. I'm sorry I won't be able to give Kingston and Surbiton the voice in Government as the Conservative MP I think we so badly need, but I wll continue to work for results on our local campaigns, not least for the hospital and local schools."
